What “Unfunded” means
“Unfunded” appears when you spend on a credit card but the spending category didn’t have enough Available to cover the purchase.
In plain English: you bought something on credit, but you haven’t set aside the cash to pay for it yet.
Why it happens
- You forgot to fund the category before spending.
- You funded it, but spent more than you planned.
- The transaction was categorized to the wrong category.
- You’re starting with (or intentionally carrying) credit card debt.
How to fix it (recommended order)
- Confirm the category is correct. If it’s wrong, recategorize the transaction.
- Move money from another category to cover the overspent amount.
- Assign more money if you have new income available.
What happens if you don’t fix it
If you leave Unfunded spending unresolved, it becomes credit card debt you’ll need to pay off later. The point of the badge is to make that debt visible so you can choose how to handle it.
How it affects your payment category
When a purchase is fully funded, Purpose Budget can reserve the cash into your card’s payment category. When it’s unfunded, there isn’t enough cash to reserve — which is why you’ll see the warning.
