Terms of Service | Purpose Budget

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the website at purposebudget.com, the Purpose Budget mobile application, and any related services (collectively, the "Service") provided by Purpose Budget LLC ("Purpose Budget," "we," "us," or "our").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Service. If you are between 13 and 18, you may only use the Service with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these eligibility requirements.

2. Account Registration

To use the Service, you must create an account through our authentication provider, Clerk. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to promptly update it if it changes. You must notify us immediately at support@purposebudget.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

3. Description of Service

Purpose Budget is a zero-based envelope budgeting application that helps you manage your personal finances. The Service allows you to:

•Create and manage budgets using envelope-based budgeting
•Track income and expenses across multiple accounts
•Connect bank accounts via Plaid for automatic transaction syncing
•Collaborate on shared budgets with other users through Spaces
•Track net worth, recurring bills, and debt payoff progress
•Export your financial data in multiple formats

4. Subscriptions and Payments

4.1 Free Trial

We may offer a free trial period for new users. At the end of the trial, you must subscribe to a paid plan to continue using paid features. If you do not subscribe, your access to paid features will be suspended.

4.2 Paid Plans

Subscription plans are billed on a monthly or annual basis through Stripe. Prices are displayed at the time of purchase and may be updated with notice. We will provide advance notice before material price changes apply to a renewal where required by law. All fees are in U.S. dollars and are non-refundable except as described in Section 4.4 or as required by law.

4.3 Automatic Renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel your subscription from your billing settings or by contacting us. Cancellation stops future renewals but does not automatically refund the current billing period unless required by law or approved by us.

4.4 Refunds

We generally do not issue refunds for partial billing periods. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us at support@purposebudget.com within 30 days of the charge and we will review your request.

5. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party providers. Your use of these integrations is subject to their respective terms:

•Plaid: Bank account connectivity is provided by Plaid Inc. By connecting your bank accounts, you agree to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or security of data provided by Plaid or your financial institution.
•Stripe: Payment processing is handled by Stripe, Inc. and is subject to Stripe's Services Agreement.
•Clerk: Authentication services are provided by Clerk, Inc.
•Termly: Cookie consent and preference management are provided by Termly.

The Service also uses PostHog (product analytics), Sentry (error monitoring), Postmark (transactional email), and Google Ads (conversion tracking). For details on what data each provider receives, see our Privacy Policy. We are not liable for the acts or omissions of these third-party providers.

If you download or access our mobile application through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or another app marketplace, your use may also be subject to that marketplace's terms, payment rules, and account requirements.

6. Your Data and Content

6.1 Ownership

You retain ownership of all financial data, budget configurations, and other content you enter into the Service ("Your Data"). We do not claim ownership of Your Data.

6.2 License to Us

You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to use, store, and process Your Data solely to provide and improve the Service. This license terminates when you delete your account.

6.3 Data Portability

You can export Your Data at any time in JSON, CSV, or QIF format from your account settings. We believe your data belongs to you.

6.4 Shared Spaces

When you invite others to a Space, they can view and (depending on their role) modify the data within that Space. You are responsible for managing access permissions for Spaces you own. Removing a member revokes their access but does not retroactively delete data they may have viewed or exported.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

•Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to violate any laws
•Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems
•Interfere with or disrupt the Service or the servers and networks connected to it
•Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access the Service without our permission
•Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
•Share your account credentials or allow others to access your account
•Use the Service to store or transmit malicious code

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, features, documentation, and branding, is owned by Purpose Budget LLC and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to use our trademarks, logos, or branding without our prior written consent.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY.

•Not Financial Advice: Purpose Budget is a budgeting tool, not a financial advisor, bank, lender, credit counselor, investment adviser, or money transmitter. We do not provide financial, tax, investment, or legal advice. You are solely responsible for your financial decisions.
•Data Accuracy: While we strive for accuracy, we do not guarantee that data synced from your bank accounts through Plaid will be complete, accurate, or timely. Transaction amounts, balances, and categorization may contain errors. Always verify financial data against your official bank statements.
•Availability: We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the Service. We may perform maintenance, updates, or changes that temporarily affect availability.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PURPOSE BUDGET LLC, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Purpose Budget LLC from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

12. Account Termination

By You: You may delete your account at any time from your account settings or by contacting us. Upon deletion, all Your Data is permanently removed from our active database. Certain records may be retained by third-party providers or as required by law, as described in our Privacy Policy. See our Account Deletion page for details.

By Us: We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, if your subscription payment fails and is not resolved, or if required by law. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before termination, except in cases of egregious violations.

13. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Travis County, Texas. You consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last Updated" date and, for significant changes, by email or an in-app notification. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you should stop using the Service and delete your account.

15. General Provisions

•Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Purpose Budget regarding the Service.
•Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
•Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.
•Assignment: You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our consent. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.
