Why reconciliation matters
Your budget is only as trustworthy as your account balances. Reconciliation is the habit of making sure the balance in Purpose Budget matches your bank.
A simple weekly routine
- Import or enter new transactions (don’t let a backlog build up).
- Confirm transactions are categorized correctly.
- Reconcile your accounts so the cleared balance matches your bank.
- Cover any overspending (especially Unfunded credit spending).
If your account balance doesn’t match
Don’t start by changing your budget. Start by finding the transaction problem:
- Missing transaction
- Duplicate transaction
- Wrong amount
- Wrong date
- Transfer recorded as spending (or vice versa)
If your budget category looks wrong but your accounts match
This is usually a categorization/date issue. Use: Assigned, Activity, Available to understand what’s driving the number.
Credit card-specific check
If you use credit cards, check for Unfunded badges weekly and resolve them quickly: Unfunded Credit Card Spending.
